On the 27th (local time), Brazilian media outlets G1 and Folha reported that Brazilian police announced the cause of death of a fan who lost consciousness at the Niusong Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on the 17th of last month and was taken to the hospital but later died. The fan, a university student named Ana Clara (23), was reported to have died from heatstroke accompanied by cardiovascular shock and severe lung damage.
The police stated, "The autopsy results showed no traces of alcohol or drug use in the deceased," and "It was also confirmed that there were no underlying health conditions."
Clara, a senior psychology major at university, fainted while watching Swift's concert at Niusong Santos Stadium during the second song. She was immediately transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away. At that time, the highest temperature in Rio de Janeiro reached 39.1 degrees Celsius, and about 60,000 spectators gathered at the concert venue. The perceived temperature at the venue was reported to have approached 60 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the local event organizer in Brazil, 'T4F,' reportedly prohibited spectators from bringing water bottles for safety reasons. It was also reported that many fans throughout the venue complained of dehydration symptoms under these conditions.
The police believe that Clara died suddenly from heatstroke due to extreme heat exposure. They are investigating the possibility of negligent homicide charges against a T4F representative. T4F stated, "We are cooperating with the investigation by providing all information requested by the authorities."
Meanwhile, after the incident, Swift expressed her condolences on her Instagram, saying, "My heart is shattered. I am deeply shocked beyond words." Swift also invited Clara's family to the final concert held in Brazil, took photos with them, and conveyed her sympathy.
