Ban on Direct Landfilling of Municipal Waste by 2030
Promotion of Related Procedures Including Formation of Site Selection Committee
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that it has formed a site selection committee consisting of resident representatives, experts, city council members, and related officials to actively promote the eco-friendly resource circulation complex installation project.
The "Gwangyang City Eco-friendly Resource Circulation Complex Installation Project" involves installing facilities such as municipal waste incineration plants and recycling sorting facilities.
The site selection committee is composed of 13 members, including resident representatives, experts, city council members, and officials. The first meeting was held on the 11th to review the feasibility of candidate sites.
The city plans to inform citizens of the investigation results of candidate sites and collect opinions to finalize the site selection.
A Gwangyang city official stated, "The amount of municipal waste is increasing, and direct landfill will be banned by 2030, making it urgent to prepare countermeasures. The eco-friendly resource circulation complex installation project is absolutely necessary."
He added, "We will comply with the procedures related to site selection and ensure the smooth operation of the site selection committee. We will also strive to develop measures to increase residents' acceptance of waste treatment facilities."
