Lee Sun-kyun Found Dead in Vehicle at Age 48
Singer Kim Song: "No One Is Without Flaws"
Kim Song, a singer and wife of duo 'Clon' member Kang Won-rae, publicly mourned the late actor Lee Sun-kyun.
On the 27th, Kim Song expressed her condolences for Lee Sun-kyun's passing through her social media, saying, "I sincerely pray for the deceased's soul."
She continued, "Crowd psychology is the worst. This country, this society drives people to death. They kill and then bring back to life," adding, "There is no one who is completely free of fault. There are only those who get caught and those who do not."
She also said, "No one is immune to their environment, and no one can confidently say 'I would never do that.' Positions can make or break a person," and expressed sorrow, "I am not condoning the crime. Since it was acknowledged, he should have paid the price and lived, even if bloodied. For the sake of his family, he should have lived. It is heartbreaking and tragic."
Earlier, Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in a vehicle parked somewhere in Seoul on the 27th. He was 48 years old. Since October, Lee Sun-kyun had been under police investigation for drug use allegations and tested negative in both a preliminary drug test and a detailed analysis by the National Forensic Service.
Following the news of Lee Sun-kyun's death, the police emphasized that "there was no coercive investigation" and that the investigation was lawful. With Lee Sun-kyun's passing, the police plan to close the case as "no prosecution." This disposition, a type of non-prosecution, is issued when the suspect has died and prosecution is impossible, or when the investigation is deemed to have no practical benefit.
Meanwhile, Lee Sun-kyun graduated from the Korea National University of Arts' Department of Theater and debuted in 2001 with the musical "Rocky Horror Show." He rose to become a top-tier actor through appearances in MBC dramas such as "White Tower" (2007), "Coffee Prince" (2007), "Pasta" (2010), and tvN's "My Mister" (2018). Notably, he gained worldwide popularity by starring in "Parasite," which won the Best Picture award at the 2020 Academy Awards.
