Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 27th that it captured a total of 2,048 harmful wild animals this year through the operation of the Harmful Wildlife Damage Prevention Team.

As a result, 1,626 water deer and 422 wild boars were captured, and compensation totaling approximately 121 million KRW was paid to 190 farmers who suffered crop damage.

Additionally, wildlife damage prevention facilities were provided to 52 farmers.

To protect citizens’ safety and property from harmful wild animals next year as well, the city conducted safety training for the first half of 2024 for the Harmful Wildlife Damage Prevention Team on the 27th.

This safety training was jointly conducted by the city and the Jeongeup Police Station for 33 newly selected members of the Harmful Wildlife Damage Prevention Team.

During the training, laws, guidelines, and case studies related to the policy of ‘prioritizing safe capture activities’ were explained.

In particular, through the activities of the Damage Prevention Team, the city plans to make every effort to prevent harm to citizens and crop damage caused by harmful wild animals such as wild boars and water deer, and to block the spread of livestock infectious diseases through the capture of wild boars.

A city official stated, “Since firearms are used when capturing harmful wild animals, people entering farmland adjacent to mountains or hiking should wear highly visible clothing to prevent safety accidents,” and added, “We will do our best to protect citizens by preventing human casualties and crop damage caused by harmful wild animals.”
