Actor Lee Seon-gyun, who passed away on the 27th, was born in Seoul in 1975. He discovered his passion for acting in his university theater club, dropped out of school, and entered the Korea National University of Arts. He made his TV debut in 2001 on the MBC TV sitcom "Lovers" playing the role of Lee Yoon-sung's younger brother. Afterward, he frequently appeared in one-act plays, steadily building his reputation.
In 2007, he gained significant attention for his role as Choi Do-young in the MBC drama "White Tower." This was followed by successful dramas such as "Coffee Prince," "Pasta," and "Golden Time." In the 2018 drama "My Mister," he portrayed Park Dong-hoon, a middle-aged man enduring the weight of life. This drama won the TV Drama Grand Prize and Best Screenplay at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards and is regarded as a well-made masterpiece both domestically and internationally.
In film, he starred in the 2000 movie "Psycho Drama" and appeared in numerous films thereafter. He delivered memorable performances in "R-Point," "A Hard Day," and "The Outlaws." For his passionate acting in "A Hard Day," he, along with co-star Jo Jin-woong, won the Best Actor Award in the film category at the 2015 Baeksang Arts Awards. His representative work is Bong Joon-ho's "Parasite."
In November 2021, he played the lead role of Go Se-won in Apple TV+'s first Korean content, "Dr. Brain." In 2023, he portrayed Jonathan in director Lee Won-seok's "Killing Romance." Most recently, he played Hyun-soo, who suffers from a sleep disorder, in director Yoo Jae-sun's "Sleep." He married actress Jeon Hye-jin in 2009 and currently has two sons.
