Top (real name Choi Seung-hyun), a former member of the famous group Big Bang, is reported to have donated 12,000 briquettes.

The Briquette Bank announced on the 27th that an anonymous donor had contributed 12,000 briquettes on the 19th. The Briquette Bank is an organization that supports about 74,000 households nationwide with briquettes during the winter season.

In fact, the donor had been sending funds for briquette purchases only through the Briquette Bank's website account number without revealing their name. After some investigation, the organization discovered that the anonymous donor was Top, formerly of Big Bang.

It is reported that Top has been using part of the proceeds from the sales of his self-produced wine 'T'SPOT,' launched in January last year, to fund the briquette donations. The 12,000 briquettes provided through Top's support will be distributed to 20 households in Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu, 30 households in Sanggye-dong, and 10 households in Hongje-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

Most households using briquettes in Korea are vulnerable residents living in hillside neighborhoods where city gas is not available. Without briquettes, they have to endure especially harsh and cold days during severe winter weather. For them, briquettes are an essential item to survive the winter season.

However, due to the sharp rise in raw material costs and labor expenses, briquette prices have increased, making it financially burdensome for briquette-using households to purchase briquettes on their own. Ultimately, voluntary donations for briquette support are almost the only way to help these vulnerable groups.

The Briquette Bank stated, "Interest in briquette donations significantly decreases after the coldest year-end period," and added, "It is at times like these that we hope socially recognized individuals will take the lead in participating in good causes, spreading a culture of sharing throughout society, which is why we decided to release this press statement about Top's briquette donation."

Heo Ki-bok, CEO of the Briquette Bank, said, "This year, we are experiencing a turbulent year-end due to adverse social conditions such as high inflation and high oil prices," and added, "Out of our goal to distribute 3 million briquettes this year, about 500,000 briquettes still need to be shared. We ask for continued interest in households using briquettes nationwide."
