‘Saengil Chorokgongbang’ represented the youth community of Wando-gun (led by Kang Mihee). The name ‘Saengil’ (island), ‘Chorok’ (nature protection), and ‘Gongbang’ (upcycling workshop) reflects the seven young members gathered with the hope that the beautiful nature of Saengil Island is kept clean.

‘Saengil Chorokgongbang’ has carried out various activities, including operating programs to protect the environment of ‘Saengildo, the island you want to visit,’ and to alleviate geographical and cultural alienation.

In particular, they conducted a ‘visiting resident participation experience’ activity that all age groups could join, running a program to make and decorate bags using discarded banners, and carried out an environmental protection campaign by producing ceramic cups to reduce the use of disposable paper cups and distributing them for free.

Kang Mihee, the representative of Saengil Chorokgongbang, said, “It was a meaningful time to deeply reflect on the significance of youth community activities by sharing various community activity cases, and we will continue to strive to be a community that contributes to the region.”

Notably, Wando-gun’s significance is heightened as it received the Excellence Award for two consecutive years, with the ‘Nohwa Ogamja’ team winning last year and ‘Saengil Chorokgongbang’ this year.

Jung Inho, Director of Population and Job Policy Office, said, “Congratulations to the Saengil Chorokgongbang team on their award, and we will actively support more youth to settle and grow in the region.”
