Samsung Electronics Unveils 'AI Food Ecosystem' at 'CES 2024'

Vision AI Technology Automatically Generates Refrigerator Ingredient Inventory List
Induction Cooking Without Heat Zone Boundaries... Connected with Samsung Food

Samsung Electronics announced on the 27th that it will showcase the Samsung Food Ecosystem based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology at 'CES 2024,' the world's largest home appliance and IT exhibition, held in Las Vegas, USA, from the 9th to the 12th of next month (local time).

At the exhibition, Samsung will present a more convenient kitchen experience through the organic connection of the 2024 Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub Plus, Anyplace Induction, and Samsung Food Service.

First, the Family Hub, which has won the 'CES Innovation Award' eight times since its launch in 2016, will feature the newly applied 'AI Vision Inside' function. This function automatically captures moments of ingredient inflow and outflow using an internal refrigerator camera to create a food list. The 'Vision AI' technology, trained on about one million food photos, recognizes 33 types of fresh foods and automatically reflects them in the food list.

Based on the automatically recorded ingredient storage dates, consumers can set storage periods, and the system sends alerts when the expiration date approaches to help consume food before spoilage. Stored groceries can be checked through photos, allowing users to immediately grasp the remaining quantities of items like milk or eggs without opening the refrigerator door.

The 32-inch Full HD touchscreen mounted on the right door of the refrigerator allows users to enjoy YouTube, TikTok, and more while cooking. A newly introduced 'Tap View' feature lets users continue watching videos from their mobile phones by lightly tapping the phone on the side of the screen.

The Anyplace Induction will also be unveiled for the first time at CES 2024. It features a 7-inch wide touch LCD display designed to allow step-by-step cooking while checking recipes.

It is the world's first induction to apply a flat rectangular-shaped sheet coil. Compared to conventional round coils, the coil gaps are minimized to eliminate burner boundaries. This design enables uniform cooking with various cookware anywhere on the cooktop.

Both the refrigerator and induction are connected to Samsung Food Service. Samsung Food recommends recipes based on ingredients stored in the refrigerator using the AI Vision Inside function.

Users can check recipes found on Samsung Food on a large screen while cooking. When recipes are sent to the oven or induction, the device automatically sets data suitable for the menu. With just one photo of a dish, AI recognizes the ingredients and finds similar recipes. It also features personalized recipe functions tailored to user preferences, such as gluten-free options.

Lee Muhyung, Vice President and Head of the CX (Customer Experience) Team at Samsung Electronics' DA (Digital Appliances) Division, said, "We have built a food ecosystem that seamlessly connects hardware like refrigerators and induction cooktops with software represented by Samsung Food, based on advanced AI technology. We will strive for innovation so that more consumers can enjoy a convenient daily life within the Samsung ecosystem."
