Efforts to Increase Tourism Resident Population
Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 27th that it has secured a large amount of project funding from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Gyeongnam Province, and will officially promote tourism development projects starting in 2024.
According to the county, the tourism development project will be implemented in two major zones: Baekyeon Recreation Area near Sangnim Park, a natural forest, and Namgye Seowon, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
First, in the Baekyeon Recreation Area zone, a tourism growth project will be promoted by investing 18.2 billion KRW in the ‘Korean Medicine Wellness Tourism Hub Project,’ which offers experiences and programs incorporating wellness trends, and 4.5 billion KRW in the creation of an auto camping site as a healing space in nature.
Additionally, centered around the UNESCO Namgye Seowon, 18 billion KRW will be invested in the ‘Seonbi Culture Heritage Pungnyu Tourism Belt Development Project,’ where visitors can feel the scent of Seonbi culture and experience history and traditional culture, and 5.9 billion KRW will be allocated to the ‘Namgye Seowon Education and Cultural Experience Center Construction Project.’
Besides these, the county will invest 2.2 billion KRW in the ‘Small Cinema Construction Project’ to enhance the cultural welfare of Hamyang residents, 3 billion KRW in the ‘Nosa-cho Noodle Memorial Hall and Baduk Experience Center Development Project’ for the development of tourism resources in Gaepyeong Hanok Village, and 1.6 billion KRW in the creation of the Geoyeonjeong Exploration Rest Area.
Through these efforts, the county plans to promote the value of Seonbi culture and establish an experiential tourism hub, positioning itself as a tourism city that highlights the prestige of Seonbi culture.
The promotion of these tourism development projects was made possible by the persistent efforts of County Governor Jin Byeong-yeong and public officials, who frequently visited central government ministries, the National Assembly, and Gyeongsangnam-do to actively explain and persuade the necessity and validity of the pending projects, securing a total of 53.4 billion KRW in tourism development project funding.
Governor Jin said, “The tourism development project is essential to respond to population decline and increase the number of tourism lifestyle populations. We will strengthen regional promotion and branding to achieve sustainable growth in the tourism industry.”
Meanwhile, along with the tourism development projects, Hamyang-gun plans to do its best to revitalize tourism by discovering and operating various tourism programs such as ‘Climb (GO) Hamyang,’ which provides souvenirs upon climbing certification of 15 mountains over 1000m within the county, and ‘Traveling Hamyang for a Month.’
