Gwangju Dong-gu Achieves Success in Being Selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Urban Public Housing Complex Project

Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it has achieved the remarkable feat of being the first basic local government in Gwangju and Jeonnam to be selected in the 'Urban Public Housing Complex Project' competition organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).

The 'Urban Public Housing Complex Project' is a project aimed at rapidly supplying housing through public-led high-density development targeting old urban areas where housing demand is high, such as station areas, but project promotion is difficult due to low profitability and resident conflicts.

The scale of the selected project site this time corresponds to an area of 17,000㎡ near Sotae Station in Dong-gu, Gwangju, with the goal of supplying 583 urban public housing units.

Dong-gu plans to actively cooperate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and LH following this selection, and closely consult with related organizations to promptly proceed with subsequent procedures such as designating the candidate site as a planned district.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "With the selection of this public housing complex project, we have been able to revitalize the local station area and quickly supply public-led apartment housing," adding, "We will continue to do our best to secure quality residential spaces for single-person households and youth in our region."
