Han Dong-hoon, the nominated Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, faces urgent issues ahead of his appointment. He is at a critical juncture to resolve the problems related to former leader Lee Jun-seok's announced departure from the party and the introduction of a special prosecutor regarding Kim Geon-hee's stock manipulation allegations.
Han is scheduled to be officially appointed through the National Committee on the 26th. On the following day, the 27th, former leader Lee is expected to hold a press conference announcing his departure. Additionally, on the 28th, the National Assembly plenary session is set to review the special prosecutor bill concerning Mrs. Kim.

Opinions within the party are divided over former leader Lee's departure. Among the pro-Yoon mainstream faction, the majority believe there is no longer a need to reach out to Lee. On the 25th, Kim Byung-min, a Supreme Council member, said on MBC Radio regarding the "Lee Jun-seok new party," "It will be difficult to attract significant media attention," adding, "With the Emergency Response Committee appointments this week, Han Dong-hoon's time will absorb all the news."
However, some non-mainstream members and incumbent lawmakers in the metropolitan area advocate for an "inclusion approach" toward Lee Jun-seok. On the same day, lawmaker Kim Woong told Yonhap News in a phone interview, "Han seems to be underestimating the election situation in the metropolitan area. There should have at least been an attempt to meet with former leader Lee."
There have been mentions that Han might meet with Lee during the holiday period, but no concrete movements have been reported yet.
The Democratic Party has announced it will push for the passage of the special prosecutor bill concerning Mrs. Kim at the National Assembly plenary session on the 28th. The ruling party plans to cast opposing votes, and the Presidential Office is leaning toward exercising the right to request reconsideration (veto power).
Considering Han's previously tough stance, it is highly likely he will align with the official position of the party and government. However, since this could provoke a backlash in the general election, careful judgment is necessary. This is why there is speculation that Han might propose a compromise.
Kim Byung-min emphasized on MBC Radio, "Since this is a special prosecutor for the general election, even if it cannot be accepted, it is important how to deliver a message that meets the public's expectations."
