Gumi-si Prepares Complex Cultural Space for Youth... Expecting Talent Development

On the 22nd, 'Gumisigangdong Youth Culture House' Opens

100 Billion Won Invested, 4-Story Building with 23 Youth Spaces

On the 22nd, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk held the opening ceremony of the ‘Gumi-si Gangdong Youth Culture House’ and officially began its operation.

The opening ceremony was attended by about 170 people including Mayor Kim Jang-ho, City Council Chairman Ahn Joo-chan, provincial and city council members, the Academy Federation, the Parents’ Association Chairpersons’ Council, the School Operation Committee Chairpersons’ Council, and youth. The event proceeded in the order of tape-cutting ceremony, pre-ceremony performance, progress report, commemorative speech, congratulatory speech, and facility tour.


The event was hosted by youth MCs Kim Min-ki (2nd year at Gumi Electronics Technical High School), Kim Min-joo (2nd year at Ok-gye Middle School), and Kim Seo-hyun (1st year at Dogae High School), who received much applause from the guests for their fresh and smooth hosting. It is highly meaningful as it provides an opportunity for youth to actively participate, grow, and demonstrate their capabilities.


The Gumi-si Gangdong Youth Culture House was built with a total project cost of 10 billion KRW within Neighborhood Park No. 9 (Woo Hang Park) in the Gumi National Industrial Complex Expansion District. It covers a site area of 61,079.9㎡ and a total floor area of 3,685.96㎡ across four above-ground floors. From November 2022 to December 2025, it will be entrusted to and operated by Gumi University (President Lee Seung-hwan).


The facility consists of 23 spaces including digital activities, creative, and other cultural areas, reflecting the latest trends and preferences of youth.


▲ Digital activities include a smart gym, dance practice room (smart mirror), drone soccer field, drawing studio (webtoon production), and video production and experience room, all designed to expand youth learning through the use of professional equipment.


The smart gym is a sports content that combines a screen for virtual reality experience with exercise equipment.


The smart mirror refers to a function that combines a mirror and a touch display, allowing video playback and immediate transmission simultaneously with recording.


▲ The creative spaces consist of three areas: ‘Door of Inspiration,’ ‘Forest of Writers,’ and ‘Dream of Tools,’ each given special real names to enable youth to create and express their own unique stories.


▲ Other cultural spaces include a camping zone, healing room, karaoke, music practice room, and multipurpose experience room, all arranged to reflect youth preferences.


Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “The Gangdong Youth Culture House is a place where Gumi City’s youth create a healthy and new culture, gain meaningful experiences in daily life, and build their future. We will do our best to create an environment for youth activities that fits the trends of the global and digital era to support the happy and healthy growth of youth.”


Since its completion in August 2022, the Gumi-si Gangdong Youth Culture House has operated after-school academies and youth participation organizations even before its opening, and has received great responses from local youth through youth family concerts, overseas cultural explorations, and cultural festivals for high school seniors. After opening, it plans to offer various themed programs utilizing diverse experience spaces such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, media, and creative activities.
