Park Gang-su, the mayor of Mapo District, conducted a special safety inspection for the fifth consecutive day on the night of December 24th, Christmas Eve, around the Hongdae Red Road area in preparation for the crowd congestion.
According to Seoul's real-time urban data, around 7 p.m., approximately 90,000 tourists flocked to the world-famous Hongdae Red Road to enjoy Christmas and the year-end festivities. In response, Mayor Park Gang-su personally directed the inspection to ensure thorough prevention of safety accidents.
On this day, Mayor Park Gang-su, along with Lee Han-kyung, Director of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Im Seong-sun, Chief of Mapo Police Station, Mapo district officials, and private organizations, conducted a more meticulous inspection of alleyways and piled-up objects that could threaten pedestrian safety. They also reviewed the AI crowd density analysis system, which played a significant role during the recent Halloween period.
The special safety inspection conducted by Mapo District, which began on the 20th ahead of the year-end and New Year holidays, is scheduled to continue until December 31, 2023.
Mayor Park Gang-su stated, “We will devote all efforts to safety management so that everyone can enjoy a joyful Christmas and year-end.” He added, “Mapo District will do its utmost in various ways to ensure the safety of residents and tourists not only from crowd congestion but also from cold waves and heavy snowfall.”
