Price↑·Quantity↓ Repeated Market Vendor Customer Deception
"Went with a friend and got spoiled snow crab... It's upsetting"
A merchant at Noryangjin Fish Market sparked controversy after a post claimed that they sold spoiled snow crab legs to high school students. Recently, incidents of deceiving customers by selling food at excessively high prices, cheating on quantity, and swapping displayed products with those sold have been repeatedly occurring. Public trust in this market is hitting rock bottom day by day.
Although the government and the merchants' association are making efforts such as inspecting the market's prices and services, similar incidents keep recurring, drawing harsh criticism from netizens.
On the 24th, a post titled "I'm so angry at Noryangjin Fish Market" was uploaded on an online community.
The author wrote, "My child is a second-year student at a specialized high school for culinary arts and said they would visit Noryangjin Fish Market with a friend just to look around," adding, "About three hours later, they came home carrying three black plastic bags that smelled like rotten fish."
The author's son had purchased a basket filled only with snow crab legs from Noryangjin Fish Market to make pasta, but many of the legs were in poor condition.
In the attached photos, the snow crab legs were stained with black spots, and the stainless steel container that held the legs had black water remaining inside.
The author said, "I was horrified when I took them out," and added, "According to my child, the legs were cut into pieces and placed in the basket, so they couldn't check each one carefully, and they thought the black stains were just something that got on them."
They continued, "I spoke with the seller, who said that a part-time worker had poorly separated the items to be sold from those to be discarded, which caused this issue," and "They responded by saying it was nothing serious and offered a refund if I gave them my bank account number."
The author expressed frustration, saying, "It's upsetting and disappointing that there are still shops that deceive customers like this," and "This situation shows how terrible Noryangjin Fish Market really is."
Finally, they said, "Although my son is just a high school student with little social experience, this is truly upsetting," and "He spent over an hour taking the bus and subway to get there, but the snow crab he bought ended up as food waste. He was left with only bad memories due to the adults' unscrupulous tactics."
Netizens responded with comments such as, "Do those merchants have no children? How could they scam young students like that?", "From shortchanging on weight to now even backstabbing, it's incredible," and "We shouldn't even go to local markets anymore. Large supermarkets are the best."
