Ha Tae-kyung, a member of the People Power Party, said on the 24th, "The core of the '789 Emergency Response Committee' is to well represent the spirit of the new era," adding, "The party will thrive and Han Dong-hoon’s Emergency Response Committee can succeed only if it is led by people who are not bound by old ideologies."
On the same day, Ha stated on Facebook, "While forming the Emergency Response Committee centered on the 789 generation (those born in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s), including people from earlier generations who well represent the new era’s spirit will increase the chances of success." Ha had previously proposed organizing the People Power Party’s Emergency Response Committee around those born in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, contrasting it with the '86' group (those who entered university in the 1980s and were born in the 1960s), which currently forms the core of the Democratic Party.
Ha elaborated, "There is no need to be limited by biological age. Even older people can have young minds, and young people can be old-fashioned," adding, "The idea is to create new energy for our party through generational change that understands the 789 generation well and can represent their thoughts effectively." He also noted, "If the political views or ideology of the 789 generation are 'old,' then that Emergency Response Committee cannot be said to represent the 789 generation," emphasizing that "this aligns with the direction of innovation our party has consistently upheld for several years."
The People Power Party designated former Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson on the 21st. They plan to confirm Han’s appointment at an online national committee meeting scheduled for the 26th.
