Kim Seok-ki, Deputy Mayor of Gimhae, Officially Begins Activities as Preliminary Candidate for General Election

At Retirement Ceremony, Urged to "Uphold Principles and Convictions"

Kim Seok-ki, Deputy Mayor of Gimhae City, Gyeongnam, stepped down from his position on the 21st and returned to being an ordinary citizen.


At the retirement ceremony held that day, Deputy Mayor Kim said, “I would like to express my gratitude to all the employees who have given their unwavering love and support so that I could do my best for the development of Gimhae city administration.”


“It is said that I have set the record as the longest-serving Deputy Mayor of Gimhae, and I think that having stayed for a long time, I could not help but develop affection for the city of Gimhae,” he said. “No matter what path I take in the future, the ties formed during the two and a half years in Gimhae will continue.”


As he left City Hall, he greeted the employees who saw him off, urging them to “keep principles and convictions and not neglect relationships.”

Deputy Mayor Kim was born in 1965 in Changwon City. After graduating from Korea University with a degree in Public Administration, he passed the 1992 civil service exam and began his public service career.


He served in the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, Gyeongnam Province, and as the first Deputy Mayor of Geoje City and Changwon City, before being appointed Deputy Mayor of Gimhae City on July 1, 2021. He concluded his 31-year public service career on this day.


Gimhae City stated, “During his tenure, Deputy Mayor Kim ushered in the era of a 2 trillion won budget for Gimhae City and led the frontline efforts from the peak to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, driving crisis management.”


“Learning from safety accidents such as the Itaewon tragedy and the Osong underpass disaster, he conducted on-site inspections in preparation for large-scale events, typhoons, heavy rains, and various disaster situations, achieving the remarkable result of zero casualties during his tenure.”

After the retirement ceremony, Deputy Mayor Kim moved to his hometown Changwon and officially began activities as a preliminary candidate for the National Assembly election scheduled for April next year.


That afternoon, he held a press conference at the Changwon City Hall press room and officially declared his candidacy as the People Power Party preliminary candidate for Seongsan District, Changwon City, in the 22nd National Assembly election.


He expressed his ambition, saying, “I will dedicate myself to making Changwon a better city to live in and a top region envied by the metropolitan area.”


To this end, he presented five promises: ▲ structural reform of the Changwon industrial complex ▲ improvement of the residential environment for youth ▲ enhancement of housing conditions ▲ expansion of support for small business owners and self-employed individuals ▲ and strengthening of education, transportation, and tourism infrastructure.


Candidate Kim said, “I want to pour out the experience I have accumulated over the past 30 years working for the region,” adding, “Even while I was away for university life and preparing for the civil service exam, I waited for the day to return, and I will devote all my efforts to restoring the prosperity of Changwon and revitalizing its economy.”


He added, “I will revive the Changwon economy centered on Seongsan District, which has resilience greater than any other city, to create a city where young people can start families and enjoy a stable life.”
