High Pathogenicity Status Under Review in Yeongam
22 of 23 Confirmed Cases Are in Honam Region
Highly pathogenic avian influenza is showing signs of an outbreak. The number of confirmed cases has increased to 23. It is spreading rapidly, mainly in the Honam region.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (CDSCH) announced on the 22nd that H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza was confirmed at a meat duck farm in Jangheung-gun, Jeonnam. Additionally, H5 avian influenza antigen was detected at a meat duck farm in Yeongam-gun, Jeonnam. The pathogenicity is currently being confirmed.
So far, there have been a total of 23 confirmed cases of avian influenza. Among them, 18 cases occurred in Jeonbuk and 4 cases in Jeonnam. The CDSCH has deployed an initial response team to farms where avian influenza was confirmed to implement preemptive quarantine measures, and at the same time, issued a temporary movement restriction order for 24 hours starting from 10 PM that day on duck farms, related facilities, and vehicles.
