Jentropy Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of electric two-wheelers and provider of battery swapping services, announced that it has signed a supply contract for electric scooter-exclusive battery swapping stations with GCOO Co., Ltd., the industry leader operating shared personal mobility (SPM) service Jibike.
Domestic shared personal mobility (SPM) service providers currently use personnel to transport charged batteries and replace discharged batteries of electric scooters placed throughout the city. The costs for battery collection and charging account for a significant portion of the overall service operation expenses.
Instead of the plug-in charging method, which takes several hours to charge personal mobility devices such as electric scooters and electric bicycles, the battery swapping station method replaces discharged batteries with fully charged ones within seconds. This method has already been commercialized domestically for electric motorcycles.
Jentropy Co., Ltd. has secured all the necessary technology and data for developing battery swapping stations dedicated to personal mobility. Since last year, it has provided a cumulative total of 130,000 battery swapping services through about 200 stations targeting delivery electric motorcycles using the battery swapping method, possessing technology and experience related to battery safety status monitoring and charging control.
Jibike Co., Ltd. operates 110,000 personal mobility devices, including electric scooters and electric bicycles, in Korea, the United States, Thailand, and other countries, and holds various information such as battery consumption rate per driving distance, battery replacement cycles, and key user locations.
Yoon Jong-su, CEO of Jibike Co., Ltd., stated, “The PM industry, as an eco-friendly sector, is essential for achieving net zero, and it has proven its marketability worldwide as a means to replace short-distance travel by car. We are confident that the PM industry will become a dominant business in the future and are developing our business accordingly.” He added, “This contract with Jentropy marks the first step in building the battery infrastructure that forms the core foundation of the PM ecosystem and signifies a promotion of the future.”
Jae-sang Lee, CEO of Jentropy Co., Ltd., said, “Although Jibike and Jentropy share common technology in electric mobility, they have provided different services to different customers. Through this collaboration, it will be an opportunity to launch various forms of electric mobility and services targeting not only the domestic but also the overseas mobility markets.”
Jentropy Co., Ltd. and Jibike Co., Ltd. announced that they will verify the effectiveness through a demonstration project in the first half of next year and will actively expand battery swapping electric scooter services from the second half of the year.
