Gyeongnam National University Opens Ultra-Large Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center

Sharing Vision and Future Directions

The 'Super Large AI,' the next-generation artificial intelligence, has opened the 'Super Large Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center' on the 22nd to lead the digital transformation and innovation of the manufacturing industry in Gyeongnam.


Gyeongnam National University held an opening ceremony at 9:50 a.m. in the Simyeon Hall of Hanma Future Hall, sharing the vision and future directions of the Global Joint Research Center along with commemorative events.

The opening ceremony began with an opening address by President Park Jae-gyu, followed by a video congratulatory message from Gyeongnam Governor Park Wan-su, and congratulatory speeches by Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, and National Assembly member Choi Hyung-doo. Then, Lee Joo-wan, CEO of Megazone Cloud, gave a welcoming speech on behalf of participating companies, and Jung Tae-wook, head of the SW-Centered University Project Group, explained the vision and promotion direction of the joint research center.


President Park said in his opening remarks, "I deeply thank all the distinguished guests who attended this meaningful opening ceremony of the Global Joint Research Center that will open the future of Gyeongnam's manufacturing industry, and everyone who has given generous encouragement and support for the center's opening."


He added, "Our center will gather excellent researchers and companies from home and abroad to focus on developing super large manufacturing AI technology and applying it to industrial sites, as well as developing new manufacturing methods and nurturing talent. By pooling the wisdom and experience of industry, academia, research, and government, I hope this research center will successfully fulfill its role and contribute to the regional industry and social re-advancement."


The Global Joint Research Center, jointly operated by Gyeongnam National University, Megazone Cloud, KAIST, and Gyeongnam Technopark, will apply 'Super Large AI' to the manufacturing industry, the main industry of Gyeongsangnam-do, to lead the digital transformation and develop core technologies that will drive innovation in global manufacturing through collaboration among industry, academia, research, and government.


The center includes participation from global innovative companies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, and SAP, domestic large corporations like KT and SK Networks Service, and small and medium enterprises such as AI.Nation, RCK, and Markbase. In the first half of next year, the Finnish manufacturing service software specialist company 'Visual Components' will also join.


The inaugural center directors are Jung Tae-wook, head of the SW-Centered University Project Group at Gyeongnam National University; Jo Yoo-seop, director of Gyeongnam Technopark; and Professor Choi Jun-gyun of KAIST. The center is located in Hanma Hall, which houses Gyeongnam's future technologies such as the 'Ulsan-Gyeongnam Regional Innovation Platform Global Coding Campus' and the 'Gyeongnam Global Game Center.'
