Gangjin-gun Selects First Tenant for Remodeled Vacant House Project

Individual Interviews Conducted with Subjects, One Household Selected for Residency

Must Reside Long-Term in Gangjin as Part of a Long-Term Plan

On the 22nd, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that on the 20th, it held a vacant house selection committee meeting to select tenants for the first remodeled vacant house, and finally selected one household as the tenant.

The chair of the review meeting was the Vice Governor of Gangjin, who is also the chairman of the Gangjin-gun Vacant House Review Committee. Attendees included members of the Gangjin-gun Council, heads of related departments, private committee members from the housing and return-to-farming/village sectors, and the village chief where the first vacant house is located.

The review combined an objective document evaluation (50 points), which scored applicants based on age group and number of household members moving in, and an interview evaluation (50 points) assessing the applicant’s purpose for moving in and their future economic and social plans in Gangjin. The applicant with the highest total score was selected as the top candidate.

A total of 22 households applied after the announcement. After the first document screening, 7 households were selected, and on the day of the meeting, individual interviews were conducted with these 7 households, resulting in the final selection of one household.

The final selected tenant will sign a contract with Gangjin-gun at the end of December and can reside for two years, with the possibility of extending the contract up to two more times. After signing the lease, the tenant must complete the move-in registration and maintain the number of household members until the contract expires.

Seo Soon-cheol, Vice Governor of Gangjin and chair of the review committee, stated, “The most important evaluation criterion in selecting the tenant was whether they would continue to stay in Gangjin even after the vacant house remodeling residency ends.” He added, “We are not looking for tenants who simply move in and live for the contract period, but those who will take this support as a foundation to put down roots and establish themselves in Gangjin for a long time, with concrete economic and social plans.”

He continued, “If someone moves in only looking at short-term childcare or return-to-farming policies and benefits without contributing to Gangjin, it may be difficult to be selected. We hope applicants approach this with a long-term plan for Gangjin.”

Meanwhile, starting with the first vacant house, Gangjin-gun plans to complete remodeling of four more vacant houses early next year and recruit four additional households to move in.
