Completion of Lower Area (8,784㎡) Park in Phase 2 of Samsung Haemaji Park Development... New Year's Sunrise Spot Completed... Major Renovation of Aging Neighborhood Parks Underway, Four Sites Revamped into Customized Parks Reflecting Residents' Opinions
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) has completed maintenance work on five parks this year, investing 6.4 billion KRW.
Samsung Haemaji Park saw the creation of a lower section park as part of its second phase development plan, and four neighborhood parks were newly transformed through a large-scale renovation plan for aging parks, a campaign promise of the 8th local government administration.
On the 20th, the lower section of Samsung Haemaji Park was completed, rapidly emerging as a new sunrise viewing spot for the New Year
Samsung Haemaji Park, which transformed the previously idle upper areas of Samsung and Bongeun reservoirs into a prime spot boasting the best views of the Han River in Gangnam, has been newly reborn. Following the first phase of the park development plan completed in December last year, which created and opened the upper section park (Samsung-dong 82, 13,814㎡) to residents, the second phase construction of the reservoir’s lower section (Samsung-dong 79-1, 8,784㎡) was carried out this year with an investment of 2.1 billion KRW, finishing on December 20. This completed a total connected park area of 22,598㎡ combining both upper and lower sections. The renewed park is expected to firmly establish itself as a popular New Year sunrise viewing destination.
At the center of the lower section park, a splendid rose garden was created, planting 8,130 rose bushes of 17 varieties including Sagye Rose. Around the park, 17,745 trees of 29 species such as Emerald Gold arborvitae and 27,645 herbaceous plants of 20 species including Lilyturf were planted, allowing visitors to experience beautiful nature within the city. Additionally, convenience facilities such as an observation deck, outdoor tables, exercise equipment, and children’s playground were installed. The deck stairs and railings connecting the upper and lower parks were newly replaced. Old lighting was completely upgraded, and new step lights were installed on the deck stairs’ floors to enable safer enjoyment of the Han River’s night view. To commemorate the reopening, a dazzling tree lighting was installed in the rose garden, creating a fantastic winter attraction harmonizing with the nearby night scenery.
Large-scale renovation of aging neighborhood parks under the 8th local government administration completed on four sites this year
Moreover, as part of the 8th local government administration’s campaign promises, a renovation plan was established for aging neighborhood parks close to residential areas, and four neighborhood parks were newly refurbished this year. While minor repairs had been made to the parks’ aging facilities over time, inconvenience remained due to deterioration, so a full-scale renovation reflecting residents’ needs was carried out to create customized parks.
The targeted sites were Cheongsu Neighborhood Park (Cheongdam-dong), Dokgol Neighborhood Park (Dogok 2-dong), Motgolarae Neighborhood Park (Jagok-dong), and Yeoksam Culture Park (Yeoksam 1-dong). After holding residents’ briefings to explain the project plans and gather opinions, convenience facilities such as exercise equipment, rest areas, and children’s playgrounds were installed to ensure enjoyment for all age groups.
In particular, Cheongsu Neighborhood Park features a wildflower garden, and Motgolarae Neighborhood Park has a hydrangea garden, creating distinctive themed gardens. Various trees were planted to allow enjoyment of the scenery throughout all four seasons. At Cheongsu, Dokgol, and Motgolarae parks, walking trails with soil paths for barefoot walking, foot washing stations, and shoe racks were created reflecting the latest trends and residents’ requests. Yeoksam Culture Park’s renovation connected a previously broken pedestrian path leading to the Kukkiwon entrance, resolving a long-standing issue.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “With the successful completion of the second phase of Samsung Haemaji Park development, visitors will now be able to fully enjoy this space. We will continue to renovate aging neighborhood parks to create spaces where people of all ages can enjoy nature and find healing within the city.”
