Up to 22.8cm of Snow Falls in Jeonnam Region, Causing Numerous Large and Small Accidents

In the Jeonnam region, where heavy snowfall of up to 22.8 cm occurred, a series of accidents, both major and minor, have been reported.

According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 21st, 60 reports were received from the morning until 5 p.m. that day.

At 7:41 a.m., in Bitgaram-dong, Naju City, a fall accident on an icy road resulted in a fractured wrist, and the victim was transported to a hospital. At 7:49 a.m., in Daema-myeon, Yeonggwang County, another fall accident caused leg injuries, and the person was also taken to a hospital.

At 8:42 a.m., in Hyeonsan-myeon, Haenam County, a vehicle slipped on an icy road and fell into a rice paddy, injuring one person. Additionally, at 11:59 a.m., a four-car collision occurred in Iyang-myeon, Hwasun County, but there were no serious casualties.

At 3:03 p.m., three passenger cars collided in the Muan Mongtan 2 Tunnel, and around the same time, a vehicle overturned on the Muan-Gwangju Expressway in Songsan-ri, Munpyeong-myeon, Naju City.

At 4:40 p.m., the roof of a livestock barn in Munpyeong-myeon, Naju City, was at risk of collapsing due to snow, prompting safety measures by the dispatched fire authorities.

Besides these, various reports such as road icing, burst water pipes, and icicle removal were continuously received.

Meanwhile, since the previous day, the Jeonnam region has recorded snowfall amounts such as 22.8 cm in Yeomsan, Yeonggwang, 22.5 cm in Haeje, Muan, 17.1 cm in Sijong, Yeongam, 15.9 cm in Hampyeong, and 14.5 cm on Haewi-do, Sinan.

In the eastern part of Jeonnam, snow is forecasted for a period in the afternoon, while in the western part, it is expected to continue until the 22nd.

With recent snowfall accumulating, especially along the west coast of Chungnam, western Jeonnam, and Jeju Island, prolonged snow may cause damage to facilities such as livestock barns, vinyl greenhouses, and weak structures due to the heavy and abundant snow. Caution is advised.

Temperatures are very low, and icy roads are expected in areas where snow is falling. Strong winds will make it very cold, so attention is needed for safety accidents, traffic safety, and health management related to snow, strong winds, and cold waves.
