HD Hyundai to Increase Female Hiring Ratio to 30% by 2030... Jeong Gi-seon "Actively Fostering Female Talent"

Announcement of Measures to Foster Female Workforce
Establishment of Up to 6-Month Childcare Leave

HD Hyundai is addressing childbirth and childcare issues faced by female employees and leaders.

On the 21st, HD Hyundai announced plans to foster female talent, including expanding female recruitment, nurturing female managers, and strengthening support for childbirth and childcare. Given the industry's characteristics, the company aims to increase the proportion of female employees in affiliates such as shipbuilding and construction machinery, where female representation is low, thereby enhancing organizational diversity and inclusiveness and ultimately strengthening corporate competitiveness.

First, the company plans to increase the female recruitment rate to 30% by 2030. The female recruitment rate rose from 9.6% in 2021 to 16.8% this year. The quota for female employees in the management development program for cultivating female leaders will be expanded, and external expert coaching will also be provided.

Additionally, separate from the statutory parental leave, a new ‘Childcare Leave’ system of up to six months has been established for children aged between 6 and 8 years. This idea was reflected based on direct meetings between Vice Chairman Jung Jung-sun of HD Hyundai and employees.

Last month, Vice Chairman Jung met with female employees who send their children to the company daycare center and discussed the difficulties of balancing work and childcare. At this meeting, he empathized with the challenges working mothers face when their children enter elementary school and personally instructed measures to alleviate these difficulties.

Furthermore, the company allows reduced working hours and remote work during early and late pregnancy stages. In addition to the statutory 90-day maternity leave, a special additional one-month maternity leave is granted. Female employees receive a congratulatory bonus of 5 million KRW each for pregnancy and childbirth, totaling 10 million KRW.

For employees suffering from infertility, the company provides a total of five days of leave by adding two extra days to the statutory three-day infertility leave and allows remote work for up to five days per month.

Since January this year, HD Hyundai has been supporting kindergarten tuition fees of up to 18 million KRW per child for three years before elementary school admission. In March, the company opened the Dream Boat, a parent-participation company daycare center at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center (GRC), which is free for employees with children aged 0 to 5 years.

Vice Chairman Jung said, "Enhancing organizational diversity and work-family balance are key tasks for sustainable growth," adding, "Through active development of female talent and a corporate culture that values work-life balance, we will create a company where people want to work and can fully demonstrate their capabilities."
