Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon Resigns... Appears to Accept Role as Interim Leader of People Power Party

On the 21st, Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon is expected to accept the position of Emergency Response Committee Chairperson of the People Power Party.

It is reported that Minister Han will step down from his ministerial post in the afternoon and hold a farewell ceremony. It is certain that he will take on the role of Emergency Response Committee Chairperson of the People Power Party.

Since the resignation of former leader Kim Ki-hyun, the People Power Party has faced a leadership vacuum. During this period, the party has been discussing the plan to appoint Minister Han as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson. Yoon Jae-ok, acting party leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, has been considering appointing Minister Han as the party’s commander-in-chief through meetings such as the caucus, joint meetings of party district committee chairpersons, and the standing advisory council.

Minister Han also hinted at accepting the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson position during a meeting with National Assembly reporters. On the 19th, he stated, "At first, none of the paths in the world were roads. When many people come together, it becomes a road."

Once Acting Leader Yoon officially nominates him, the appointment procedure will proceed through resolutions by the party’s Supreme Council and the National Committee.

Acting Leader Yoon has expressed his intention to make the nomination after the budget bill is processed.

Within the People Power Party, there has been no disagreement on the necessity of Minister Han for the general election. However, opinions have varied, ranging from appointing him as the election campaign committee chairperson to having him take full responsibility as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson overseeing the entire election.

With Minister Han clarifying his position, the People Power Party is expected to reorganize its ranks under the 'Han Dong-hoon Emergency Response Committee Chairperson system' to contest the general election.
