Subtitle - Following the LED mural on the Yongbyeok wall of Seosin Elementary School in Sinsa 2-dong last September, LED murals installed at Yeoncheon Elementary School in Bulgwang 2-dong and Jeungsan Elementary School in Jeungsan-dong
Seoul Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it has installed ‘LED murals’ at Yeoncheon Elementary School in Bulgwang 2-dong and Jeungsan Elementary School in Jeungsan-dong.
‘LED murals’ are facilities applying CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design). CPTED is a technique that installs lighting facilities on dark streets to suppress criminal psychology and improve the environment so that residents can see better, thereby preventing crime.
This is the second installation following the LED mural on the retaining wall of Seosin Elementary School in Sinsa 2-dong last September. The walls of Yeoncheon Elementary School and Jeungsan Elementary School were places in need of improvement due to the deterioration of existing murals, causing reduced aesthetics during the day and decreased visibility at night.
Eunpyeong-gu promoted the project ‘Installation of LED road surface lights for safe return paths,’ a campaign pledge of the 8th local government administration, and recruited target sites. Selection was made based on cooperation from the local police station, the effectiveness of the project, and necessity.
The design of the LED mural sculptures was developed by collecting opinions from faculty and students. Careful attention was paid during installation, such as adopting indirect lighting to avoid obstructing the vision of nighttime drivers or causing light pollution to nearby residential areas.
A nearby resident said, “The once bleak return path has become bright and gives a sense of security, making living here feel much better, so I am very satisfied.”
An official from Eunpyeong-gu stated, “We aim to install one more site next year,” and added, “We will make further efforts to ensure that through continuous maintenance, the LED murals harmonize with the surrounding landscape and become part of the residents’ living environment.”
