On the 20th, the Jongno Police Station in Seoul announced that suspect A (17) stated he received a total of 100,000 won in two installments before carrying out the act. It was confirmed that A received a request through social networking services (SNS) from an unidentified person offering money for graffiti, and sprayed the specified phrases at locations designated by the requester.
The police arrested A at around 7:08 PM the previous day, and 17 minutes later, co-perpetrator B (16) was arrested at her residence in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
The couple, A and B, are accused of violating the Cultural Heritage Protection Act by spray-painting phrases such as "Free Movie" along with terms believed to refer to illegal video sharing sites on the Gyeongbokgung Palace wall area in the early morning of the 16th. The spray cans used as tools for the crime were purchased by them and discarded at the scene after the act.
A police official stated, "Considering the suspects' ages, their statements, concerns about flight risk and evidence destruction, and the severity of the charges, we are reviewing whether to apply for arrest warrants."
