DaATI Consortium Wins Contract for Phase 2 Railway Control System Construction Project

The consortium led by Daea TIAI, a railway signal control system company, announced on the 20th that it has successfully secured a project worth approximately 250 billion KRW to build the control system for the 2nd Railway Traffic Control Center.

The 2nd Railway Traffic Control Center control system construction project is a nationwide initiative to integrate and link the control systems of all high-speed and conventional railways, covering a total length of 3,690 km and 527 stations. Daea TIAI participated in the bidding by forming a consortium with specialized companies. Daea TIAI has a track record of building the world's largest railway traffic control center in 2002. It also succeeded in fully domesticating the CTC field, which had been dependent on imports. Since then, it has continuously secured related follow-up projects through steady research and development (R&D) and recruitment of specialized technical personnel.

The 2nd Railway Traffic Control Center control system construction project, which has been highlighted as the largest public system construction project this year, is the first future-oriented control system in Korea based on artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technologies. It is a smart integrated control system that converges railway signal expertise and 4th industrial revolution technologies to automate control operations and optimize train operations, aiming to ensure railway safety and transportation efficiency.

A dual system will be established where the Railway Traffic Control Center is responsible for the area north of Daejeon Station, and the 2nd Railway Traffic Control Center covers the south. Since one control center can manage the entire network in emergencies, flawless and uninterrupted control is possible. The 2nd Railway Traffic Control Center is essential to respond to existing line improvements and new railway lines due to the current Railway Traffic Control Center’s capacity overload and aging facilities.

Technically, it will be improved compared to the existing railway traffic control system. The 2nd Railway Traffic Control System is a standardized and automated control system capable of accommodating all high-speed and conventional railway train control systems nationwide. It can also accommodate the KTCS-2 and KTCS-M systems to be introduced in the future. It will be built based on SIL2, the highest international safety integrity level in the control field.

A Daea TIAI official said, "Based on the know-how accumulated during the construction of the Railway Traffic Control Center and Daea TIAI’s unique technological capabilities, we will successfully build the 2nd Railway Traffic Control Center control system by 2026." He added, "Through the advancement of the control system, we will open an era where the public can use railways more safely."

Since starting the Malaysia EMU upgrade project in 2009, Daea TIAI has been responsible for the Jakarta LRT Phase 1 signaling project in Indonesia, the Egypt signaling modernization project, and the Manila MRT7 signaling project. Beyond being the number one domestic railway signal system company, it is accelerating its entry into overseas markets with the goal of becoming one of the 'Top 3 in Asia.'
