Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced on the 20th that it is making efforts to bridge the digital divide among the elderly by supporting the installation of free internet networks and Wi-Fi in local senior centers and promoting smartphone education visits.
The district has so far completed the installation of internet networks and computer support in a total of 109 locations, including all 34 district-run senior centers and 75 private senior centers that requested the service, out of 118 senior centers in the area. Additionally, Wi-Fi equipment installation is underway in all senior centers within the district.
In cooperation with the Senior Welfare Center, education on "How to Use Smartphones and Kiosks" is being conducted at the senior centers. Specialized digital education instructors for the elderly have provided one-on-one or one-on-two customized education and group education to about 500 people this year, and are strengthening related education in response to the increasing use of store kiosks for ordering.
