Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Wins Two Awards in Cultural Heritage Administration's Regional Cultural Heritage Utilization Evaluation

Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 20th that it was selected as an excellent local government in the evaluation of the ‘Outstanding Projects Utilizing Regional Cultural Heritage’ hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration.

The district received the Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner’s Award for two projects, ‘Find the Sinchang-dong Time Capsule’ and ‘Muyang in the City (Muyang in the City).’

‘Find the Sinchang-dong Time Capsule,’ selected as an outstanding project in the field of vivid cultural heritage utilization, was a diverse experiential event applying artifacts excavated from the Sinchang-dong site in Gwangju, gaining strong public response.

‘Muyang in the City,’ chosen as an outstanding project in the field of utilizing Hyanggyo and Seowon cultural heritage, operated experiences such as royal physician activities and herb gathering themed around Choi Sajeon and Choi Bu, the enshrined figures of Muyang Seowon. Some parts of the project were converted to paid services to differentiate from free projects, recognizing its potential as a self-sustaining project.

The district’s establishment and operation of the first-ever Cultural Heritage Utilization Team nationwide, along with building an organic cooperative system with related organizations and attempting various utilization methods that enhanced the value of regional cultural heritage, were analyzed as key factors for success.
