Jinju-si Selected as an Excellent Local Government for Cultural Heritage Management Capacity This Year

Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that it has been selected as an 'Excellent Local Government in Cultural Heritage Management Capacity 2023' by the Cultural Heritage Administration.

Every year, the Cultural Heritage Administration evaluates the cultural heritage management capacity of basic local governments both qualitatively and quantitatively and selects outstanding local governments.

This year, a total of 14 local governments (2 metropolitan and 12 basic) received awards in the categories of quantitative excellence in capacity diagnosis, qualitative excellence, and improvement excellence, with four local governments including Jinju City recognized for their excellence in qualitative evaluation.

In particular, Jinju City was highly evaluated for its efforts not only to simply preserve cultural heritage but also to actively utilize it through cultural heritage utilization projects such as the Jinju Cultural Heritage Night Tour, Hyanggyo and Seowon Cultural Heritage Utilization Projects, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Saturday Regular Performances (5 types of performances 9 times, 2 types of demonstrations 16 times), and cultural heritage preservation and restoration management projects.

A city official stated, “We will continue to do our best in the preservation, management, and utilization of cultural heritage,” adding, “We will strive to enable visitors to Jinju City to experience and feel cultural heritage more closely.”
