A waterway where nature and culture coexist is opening right in the heart of the old downtown area of Namdong-gu, Incheon.
Namdong-gu announced on the 19th that it held the final report meeting for the 'Feasibility Study and Basic Plan Establishment Service for the Restoration Project of Mansucheon Ecological Stream.' At the meeting, explanations and discussions were held on comprehensive review matters, including technical aspects for restoring the Mansucheon ecological stream and revitalization plans for the surrounding old downtown area.
Specifically, the plan included a master plan for ecological stream restoration, cross-section planning, spatial arrangement planning, parking lot securing plans, and old downtown revitalization measures.
The master plan, themed "The newly reborn Mansucheon where nature and culture coexist," proposed restoring Mansucheon by dividing it into three sections utilizing ecological, cultural, and historical resources. It also suggested securing alternative parking lots linked with expanding public parking lots and redevelopment projects, and ways to specialize the area around Mansucheon to revitalize the old downtown.
To achieve this, tasks such as designating the stream as a local stream, securing maintenance water for stream management, and efforts to secure funding from national and city budgets were identified. Based on this final report meeting, Namdong-gu plans to proceed with administrative procedures for local stream designation, continue negotiations to secure alternative parking lots and project funds, and establish a long-term roadmap.
Park Jong-hyo, the district mayor, stated, "The Mansucheon ecological stream restoration project is an essential project for creating a waterfront space in the old downtown and revitalizing the area. We will actively consult with related organizations such as Incheon City to designate the first phase project section, currently a 'guggeo (small ditch),' as a 'local stream' and to secure maintenance water for the stream."
