Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center Surpasses 10,000 Trainees in Just Over One Year Since Opening

The Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has surpassed a cumulative total of 10,000 participants in environmental education within 1 year and 6 months of its opening.

Opened in April 2022, the Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center serves as a hub for local environmental education, offering diverse programs tailored to all life stages from young children to adults, raising awareness about the importance of environmental protection. Since last year, a total of 688 educational programs have been conducted, with a cumulative attendance of 11,218 participants.

This figure represents pure educational participation, excluding general users such as those attending event booths or renting facilities, indicating that many residents of all ages have a strong interest in environmental education and practicing environmental protection.

The Environmental Education Center offers customized environmental education programs including individual programs open to anyone, group programs for local daycare centers and kindergartens, ▲ “Visiting Eco-Rangrang” for elementary schools and after-school care centers, and ▲ “Our Neighborhood Environmental School” for community groups.

In particular, the program for young children, “Gather! Jungnang-gu Animal Friends,” and the elementary school program, “The Hidden Secret of the Climate Crisis Agent,” were designated on September 1 this year by the Ministry of Environment as “Outstanding Environmental Education Programs for the 2nd session of 2023,” verifying the programs’ eco-friendliness, excellence, and safety.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of our residents, the Environmental Education Center has surpassed 10,000 participants in just over a year since its opening. We will continue to strive to create an eco-friendly city where all residents take the lead in environmental protection.”

Starting next year, the Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center plans to introduce a new game-based environmental education program linked to local and school curricula for middle and high school students.
