Seodong Mado Pier Area Dawn Market
5 Billion KRW Investment for Renovation of 45 Stores
The 'Saebyeok Market' near Mado Pier in Seodong, Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam, has been transformed into a clean and hygienic traditional market.
This Saebyeok Market has functioned for over 20 years primarily as a seafood market selling live and fresh fish during the early dawn hours before sunrise.
However, due to its nature as a business area naturally formed on port grounds, it had long been a blind spot in terms of hygiene and fire risk.
In response, Sacheon City invested 500 million won to renovate 45 stores, completing the installation of an arcade, market flooring, sewage pipelines, and maintenance of electrical, firefighting, and communication facilities.
The construction period lasted two months, from October to December, and the completion ceremony will be held on the 20th.
Additionally, merchants will receive hygiene and customer service training to match the comfortable modern facilities, aiming to increase visitor satisfaction as a trustworthy market.
Notably, Saebyeok Market has been incorporated into the Samcheonpo traditional seafood market and officially recognized as a traditional market, raising expectations that consumers will be able to shop in a pleasant and safe environment.
Mayor Park Dongsik said, "Going forward, Saebyeok Market will become a local attraction visited by many people through improved sanitary conditions," adding, "I hope this will serve as an opportunity to bring a fresh breeze to traditional markets overall."
