Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Authority to Rename Itself as 'Seoul Arisu Headquarters'

The Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Headquarters announced on the 17th that it will change its institution name to 'Seoul Arisu Headquarters' starting next year. This is the first change in 34 years since the headquarters was launched in 1989.

The name Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Headquarters is in Chinese characters and is long, making communication difficult. Additionally, the headquarters judged that the word 'waterworks' evokes images of buried old pipes to citizens, which acts as a factor damaging its image.

Therefore, the headquarters actively utilized the highly recognized Seoul tap water brand 'Arisu' to promote the development of a new institution name and CI (Corporate Identity). The English name will also be changed from the existing 'Seoul Waterworks Authority' to 'Seoul Water.'

On the 15th, the organizational restructuring plan, which centered on the institution name change, passed the Seoul City Council plenary session, and the headquarters will start anew as Seoul Arisu Headquarters from January 1 next year.

Along with the name change, the city set a goal to increase the proportion of Seoul citizens drinking Arisu to 50% by 2026.

To achieve this, the city plans to conduct 1 million free faucet water quality inspections at homes by 2026.
