30-Year-Old Instructor Assaulted 20 Times Over 10 Months

An incident occurred in which academy instructors collectively assaulted a fellow instructor for 10 months, causing serious injuries with a medical prognosis of 10 weeks.

Judge Eun-ju Lee of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 14 sentenced Academy Director A (40, male), who was detained and prosecuted on charges including joint injury and joint extortion under the Act on the Punishment of Violent Crimes, to 5 years in prison at the sentencing hearing on the 15th. Two other academy instructors, B (33, male) and another instructor, were each sentenced to 4 years in prison. Another instructor (25, female), who was prosecuted without detention on the same charges, was sentenced to 2 years in prison.

From June last year to April this year, for a total of 10 months, they assaulted instructor D in his 30s twenty times at academies in Jung-gu and Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, and extorted 50 million won from him. They claimed the victim embezzled academy funds and repeatedly committed group assaults, including binding the victim with tape and threatening him with a weapon.

The court explained, "The defendants forced the victim to write a waiver of bodily rights and threatened him by saying 'I will remove your organs and sell them.' They also stripped him, bound his hands with tape, and threatened to kill him while holding a weapon."

Furthermore, the court stated, "The crimes were brutal and bizarre, such as forcing the victim to take off his pants and lie face down with arms stretched out. It is difficult to even imagine the physical and psychological pain the victim endured."

Judge Lee said, "The defendants lied to the investigative authorities, claiming the crime was accidental, but later admitted to the offenses. Severe punishment corresponding to their guilt is inevitable to prevent such incidents from recurring."

The victim, exposed to prolonged assault, suffered cracked ribs, a torn cornea in the left eye, and a ruptured cruciate ligament. He received a total of 10 weeks of medical treatment.
