Chairperson of Yangja Gangseo-gu Saemaeul Women's Association Receives Model Citizen Award

Jin Gyo-hoon, Mayor of Gangseo District, Seoul, presented certificates of commendation and expressed his gratitude on the 15th to exemplary residents who contributed to community harmony and local development throughout the area.


At 11 a.m. that day, Mayor Jin held the ‘27th Gangseo Resident Awards’ ceremony in the district office’s main conference room and awarded certificates of commendation to nine residents who have taken the lead in contributing to the community.


At the ceremony, Lee Yang-ja, Chairwoman of the Gangseo Saemaeul Women’s Association, was honored with the grand prize. Chairwoman Lee has led efforts to create a warm community of sharing and coexistence through continuous volunteer activities in various fields such as providing side dishes and kimchi to the underprivileged, serving meals to elderly living alone, offering bathing services, and supporting outdoor activities. She also contributed to environmental protection in the community by practicing environmental campaigns for carbon neutrality and participating in plogging, which involves picking up trash while jogging.


In the community development category, Park Soon-hee of Yeomchang-dong, who delivered lunch boxes to elderly living alone and supported snacks for reservists, and Kim Cheol-ho of Hwagok 1-dong, who conducted comprehensive disinfection and pest control activities targeting vulnerable housing groups, were awarded.


In the community harmony and volunteer category, Ji Young-hee of Hwagok 4-dong, who promoted food sharing and housing environment improvement services for vulnerable groups, and the Gangseo Out-of-School Youth Support Center, which provided over 16,000 customized career programs including self-development and employment planning to 1,066 out-of-school youths over the past three years, received commendations.


In the environmental protection category, Park Jae-ok of Hwagok 6-dong, who has consistently engaged in village purification activities such as cleaning neighborhood alleys and planting trees, was recognized. In the cultural and sports development category, No Soon-bok, Vice Director of the Gangseo Cultural Center, who expanded residents’ opportunities to enjoy culture and led the development of local culture and arts, was honored.


In the public morals category, Kim Ok-hwa of Deungchon 1-dong, who has continuously provided hairdressing volunteer services for 28 years to the elderly, disabled, and other marginalized groups, and Park Sun-ja, Chairwoman of the Gonghang-dong Saemaeul Women’s Association, who has steadily carried out volunteer activities for low-income families, were awarded.


Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “I would like to express my deep gratitude to the residents who have devoted themselves to helping neighbors in need in unseen places, adding warmth to the community and practicing neighborly love through sharing. The district office will also take even more meticulous care to ensure that no marginalized neighbors are left behind.”
