1900 Applicants Registered on the Website for National Talent
About 30 Announcements Scheduled by Early January
The People Power Party will announce an additional nine candidates recruited for the general election through the 'National Talent Roadshow' event on the 19th.
Jo Jeong-hoon, a member of the People Power Party's Talent Recruitment Committee, met with reporters after concluding the 5th meeting at the party headquarters that morning and said, "A roadshow showcasing national talents is scheduled for the 19th," adding, "As a result of today's review, a total of nine individuals will be revealed. The fields include energy, environment, business, and media."
Previously, on the 8th, the People Power Party announced the recruitment of five individuals, including Professor Lee Soo-jeong of Kyonggi University and Ha Jeong-hoon, director of a pediatric clinic. Jo stated, "With the announcement of nine people, the total will be 14, and we plan to continue announcing approximately 30 to 35 candidates by early January."
It is known that the decision on whether the recruited talents will run for constituencies or proportional representation is still under internal coordination. Jo said, "We do not plan to announce their preferred regions," but added, "Our primary principle is constituency candidacy. Since the election law regarding proportional representation has not been finalized, it is our position that the Talent Recruitment Committee cannot promise proportional representation."
However, there are variables in the actual nomination process. Jo explained, "There is a possibility that some talents may be nominated through proportional representation during the finalization of nominations," and "All nine individuals to be announced next week have clearly expressed their intention to run for constituencies or elected positions."
Regarding Lee Sang-min, who left the Democratic Party and is attracting attention as a potential recruit for the People Power Party, Jo said, "There is a lot of interest," but added, "It is not appropriate for the Talent Recruitment Committee to be the channel for his recruitment, and our recruitment criteria generally exclude those who have been active in other political parties."
Jo emphasized, "The People Power Party has 30 areas in the metropolitan region where party branch chiefs have not been appointed, so we are accelerating talent recruitment with much more flexibility than the Democratic Party," and added, "Our goal is not only to become the majority party in the upcoming general election but also to create a party that is much younger and more vibrant than the Democratic Party, filled with energetic lawmakers."
