36th Awards Ceremony on the 19th at Busan Education Office
Kim Namsu, Jin Byeonghwa, Kim Jaedu, Je Taewon
Four recipients of this year's Busan Education Awards have been selected.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) announced on the 14th that the winners of the 36th Busan Education Awards are Kim Nam-su, former principal of Busan National University of Education Attached Elementary School, in the elementary education category; Jin Byeong-hwa, former principal of Dongnae High School, in the secondary education category; Kim Jae-du, principal of the Academic Credit Recognition Department at Busan Gyeongho High School, in the lifelong education category; and Je Tae-won, former director of the Busan Student Education and Culture Center, in the educational administration category.
The Busan Education Awards, established in 1988, are prestigious awards in Busan education given annually at the end of the year to recognize educators who have made significant contributions to the development of education in Busan.
In the elementary education category, former principal Kim Nam-su has led classroom instruction improvements for over 40 years as an elementary school educator. He served as a teacher, vice principal, and principal at Busan National University of Education Attached Elementary School, acting as a bridge between the Ministry of Education's curriculum policies and the school field.
He was also recognized for his contributions to improving teaching and learning methods through guiding student teachers during their practicum and collaborative research with the education university.
In the secondary education category, former principal Jin Byeong-hwa significantly contributed to the development of secondary education by serving as vice principal of the Korea Science Academy of KAIST, founding principal of Busan Il Science High School, establishing a school management system to nurture global science leaders, and acting as director of the Science Education Center, playing a major role in spreading scientific culture.
In the lifelong education category, principal Kim Jae-du has dedicated over 50 years to lifelong education since founding Dongsang Reconstruction School in 1970.
He was selected for his dedication to creating educational environments where out-of-school youth and adult learners can realize their aspirations, including personally funding the construction of a new school building in 1980 and obtaining approval for the Deulgukhwa Senior Citizens' Classroom in 1990 to provide literacy education for the elderly.
In the educational administration category, former director Je Tae-won began his public service career in 1979 and served for 41 years in various roles such as student affairs officer, education support division chief, education finance division chief, planning and coordination officer, administrative director, and director of the Student Education and Culture Center, demonstrating deep affection for Busan education and contributing to the advancement of educational administration.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “The 36th Busan Education Awards this year is a major event that honors the contributions of those who have devoted themselves to the development of Busan education and promotes a culture of respect for educators and those engaged in education. We will do our best to realize ‘Hope Busan Education’ by emulating the passion, love, and dedication of the awardees.”
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to hold the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. on the 19th in the International Conference Room of the Office of Education annex.
