Here, Doing a 'Cheongnyeon Intern' Increased Employment Rate... Busan Port Authority Built a Ladder to Employment Success

Cumulative Employment Rate of 80% After Completing Internships Since 2020

"Practical Help from Internship Program + Satisfaction with Work Experience"

The youth internship program of Busan Port Authority is yielding practical benefits in employment, creating a 'pleasant surprise.'

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) announced on the 14th that 80% of the young people who completed BPA internship programs, including experiential youth internships and work experience programs from 2020 to 2023, succeeded in finding employment.

BPA conducts surveys annually among internship program completers to investigate employment status and the effectiveness of BPA's internship programs, focusing on discovering needs for improving the internship system and enhancing its substance.

In this year's survey, 45 out of 66 completers participated, and it was found that 36 respondents, or 80%, succeeded in gaining employment.

Among those employed, the proportion of regular employees and freelancers was 83%, significantly higher compared to the 17% reemployment rate of non-regular workers.

The employment sectors also showed that 64% were in government/public institutions and 36% in private companies/freelance work, demonstrating that BPA internship experience helps not only in public institutions but also in private sector employment.

Regarding whether BPA's internship system was effectively helpful in the employment process, 98% of respondents answered positively. Among them, satisfaction with 'practical work experience' was particularly high.

BPA transparently discloses the departments and job roles planned for placement at the time of job announcements. Especially during intern department placement, the 'intern job selection autonomy' was maximally guaranteed based on surveys of desired job roles before and after recruitment and analysis of existing competencies, which was analyzed to have a positive effect.

BPA President Kang Jun-seok said, “Our internship system is thoroughly managed throughout the entire process to provide practical help for youth entering society,” adding, “We will continue to listen to the voices of young people and aim to create an internship system that youth want and directly shape.”

BPA is actively implementing government-recommended policies to revitalize the internship system, such as expanding youth intern recruitment compared to the previous year, extending internship periods, broadening recruitment fields, extending the period for provisional acceptance, and increasing the number of provisional acceptances.

In addition to the internship system, BPA is conducting various support programs to enhance youth employment capabilities, including mock interviews and feedback on strengths and weaknesses for local university students, and producing and releasing the first-ever public institution’s own employment guidebook, “Always Support海.”
