Mokpo Coast Guard Finds Carcass of Natural Monument 'Jeombagi Mulbeom'

Approximately 170cm tall... Handed over to the National Honam Regional Biological Support Center

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) announced on the 14th that the carcass of a spotted seal, a natural monument, was found in Uisin-myeon, Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do.

On the morning of the 13th at 10:14 AM, Mokpo Maritime Police received a report that a seal was accidentally caught while Mr. A (in his 50s) was hauling a net he had set near Supum Port in Uisin-myeon, Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do.


The accidentally caught spotted seal measured approximately 171 cm in length, 42 cm in width, and weighed about 150 kg. There was no evidence of illegal or intentional capture, and it was confirmed as the natural monument "spotted seal" through the National Institute of Fisheries Science Whale Research Center.


In accordance with relevant regulations, Mokpo Maritime Police handed over the spotted seal to the National Honam Regional Biological Resource Center at around 11:45 AM that day.
