LH Receives Minister of Environment Award for Contributions to Carbon Neutrality at Compensation Sites

Establishing a Resource Circulation System for Municipal Waste
Practicing Paperless through Digital Transformation

Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 14th that it received the Minister of Environment Award at the ‘2023 Carbon Neutrality Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Environment and organized by the Korea Climate and Environment Network, in recognition of its contribution to achieving carbon neutrality at compensation sites.

LH was recognized for contributing to carbon neutrality by establishing a paperless work environment that recycles household waste at compensation sites, introduces electronic notification for compensation guidance, mobile basic surveys, and electronic appraisal reports.

Previously, household waste generated during resident relocation at LH compensation sites caused environmental pollution and was incinerated without separate recycling.

In response, LH signed a business agreement with the Korea Environment Corporation and E-Circular Governance in June to implement household waste recycling that encourages voluntary disposal by compensation customers. The proceeds generated from collecting and recycling discarded home appliances will be donated to socially vulnerable groups.

Additionally, LH reduced paper usage by building a paperless work environment through the digital transformation of overall compensation operations.

Paper-based notifications and guidance documents are converted into electronic documents and sent to customers’ smartphones, and basic data such as real estate registers and drawings, which are essential for basic surveys of land and buildings for compensation, are not printed but stored on tablets to conduct mobile basic surveys.

Moreover, since November, LH became the first public institution to introduce electronic appraisal reports, which were previously issued on paper.

Lee Sang-wook, Vice President of LH, stated, “LH is actively striving as a model institution for carbon reduction to address the climate crisis and achieve the national carbon neutrality goal,” and added, “We will continue to discover various projects to expand low-carbon implementation to more work areas.”
