SK Group plans to present a blueprint for a ‘Net Zero’ world where the climate crisis has disappeared through carbon reduction technologies and businesses at ‘CES 2024,’ the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA, from January 9 to 12 next year.
On the 13th, SK Group announced that seven affiliates?SK Inc., SK Innovation, SK Hynix, SK Telecom, SK E&S, SK Ecoplant, and SKC?will jointly operate an exhibition hall under the theme ‘Inspire Happiness’ at CES 2024.
SK will showcase a theme park-style exhibition hall where visitors can experience the happiness felt in a net-zero world free from the climate crisis, such as clean air and comfortable living environments, by riding a futuristic train and a flying carpet, and even having their fortune told by AI. The exhibition space will cover 1,850㎡ (approximately 560 pyeong), expanding by 627㎡ (about 190 pyeong) compared to CES 2023 held last January.
An SK Group official said, "We will create an exhibition hall where visitors can experience the happiness felt in a net-zero world free from the climate crisis," adding, "Through this, we plan to convey the message that joining the carbon reduction journey is a joyful act and that protecting sustainable happiness is essential."
Previously, at ‘CES 2022,’ SK Group announced its goal to reduce 1% (200 million tons) of the global carbon reduction target by 2030 and chose ‘Together’ as the exhibition theme to signify joining SK’s ‘carbon reduction journey.’ At ‘CES 2023,’ the theme was ‘Action,’ focusing on implementing the carbon reduction roadmap, and SK unveiled about 40 technologies and ongoing projects.
At the closing speech of the ‘2023 CEO Seminar’ held in Paris, France, last October, SK Chairman Chey Tae-won stated a new global strategic direction: "If we bundle the group’s various products to solve customers’ problems, new markets can open," and "By maximizing the group’s strengths and packaging products, we can survive in global competition."
Accordingly, SK plans to group and showcase the carbon reduction technologies and businesses of each member company?such as ▲High Bandwidth Memory Semiconductors (HBM), ▲Electric Vehicle Batteries, △ Urban Air Mobility (UAM), ▲Advanced Materials, ▲Plastic Recycling, ▲Hydrogen, ▲Small Modular Reactors (SMR), and ▲Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS)?rather than exhibiting them individually, allowing visitors to see and experience them at a glance.
An SK Group official said, "SK Group views ‘Net Zero’ as a new growth momentum in the era of energy transition and has developed various carbon reduction technologies and solutions by member company," adding, "At next year’s CES, we will unveil various innovative technologies and ongoing projects to establish ourselves as the world’s leading provider of carbon reduction solution packages."
SK Group is the second-largest conglomerate in South Korea by total assets and was selected by TIME magazine as one of the ‘100 Most Influential Companies in the World’ in 2023. As an energy and information and communications company, SK is strengthening its leadership as a major manufacturer of semiconductors and electric vehicle batteries in the global market, securing future growth engines centered on its four core businesses: advanced materials, green, digital, and bio sectors, and continuously achieving innovation. Meanwhile, materials introducing the SK exhibition hall and press releases will be posted sequentially on the website.
