Koreans in the US are hooked on Korean food... "Great for special occasions"
'Mulhoemyeon' followed by 'Dwaeji Gomtang'... Korean cuisine recognized by the NYT
A Korean pork soup restaurant located in Koreatown, New York, USA, has had its pork soup selected as one of the "8 Best Dishes in New York This Year" by The New York Times (NYT).
On the 13th (local time), NYT announced the top 8 best dishes among representative menu items from restaurants in the New York area. Included in the list was the pork bone soup from the Korean restaurant "Okdongsik."
Okdongsik, a soup specialty restaurant that opened in Seoul in 2016, expanded to Manhattan, New York, last November.
NYT described Okdongsik's pork bone soup, characterized by its clear pork broth, as "a flavor you won't get tired of even if you eat it every day," adding, "but it would be even better to enjoy on a special day."
Along with this, NYT included the Korean restaurant "Naro" in its list of "12 Best New Restaurants in New York This Year."
Naro is operated by chefs Park Jeong-hyun and Park Jeong-eun, who also run the upscale Korean restaurant "Atomix" in Manhattan. Regarding Naro, which has been operating at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan since the end of last year, NYT commented that it "reinterprets traditional Korean cuisine in a modern yet restrained style."
NYT Includes 'Mulhoe Noodles' in '23 Best American Restaurant Dishes of the Year'
Meanwhile, NYT included the fusion Korean dish "Mulhoe Noodles" in its "23 Best American Restaurant Dishes of the Year."
Regarding "Mulhoe Noodles" from the Korean restaurant "Bansang" located in San Francisco, NYT said, "The ruby-colored spicy and cold broth beautifully entangles strands of capellini noodles with seasonal fish pieces, radish, and cucumber pickles."
They added, "Each ingredient's characteristics are distinct, yet they create a fantastic harmony in the mouth," and "It invigorates you whenever you eat it."
Interest in K-food was also reflected in the "Searches of the Year" rankings announced on the 12th by Google, the world's largest search engine. In the recipe category, Korean dish "Bibimbap" ranked global number one, ahead of Spain's Espetos and Indonesia's Papeda.
