Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) has selected five exemplary public officials for proactive administration in the second half of the year, recognizing their achievements through active work efforts. This initiative aims to grant special privileges to officials who have alleviated residents' inconveniences and contributed to district development, thereby fostering a culture of proactive public service.

The district received 16 outstanding case recommendations from residents and departments. After public verification and preliminary screening, eight cases were shortlisted. On the 28th of last month, the Proactive Administration Committee, which includes civilian members such as lawyers and professors, conducted a final evaluation. Through presentations and Q&A sessions, the committee comprehensively assessed the candidates' problem-solving efforts and achievements during project implementation.

The awardees are: ▲ Kim Gi-o, Administrative Officer of the Regional Economy Division (Grand Prize) ▲ Kim Eun-kyung, Administrative Officer of the Housing Division (Excellence Award) ▲ Kim Eun-hee, Administrative Officer of the Urban Planning Division (Encouragement Award) ▲ An Il-chan of the Urban Planning Division and Wi So-hyun of the Road Division (Outstanding Team Award), totaling five recipients.

The Grand Prize was awarded to Administrative Officer Kim Gi-o, who contributed to securing the competitiveness of Yongmun Market, a traditional market in decline, by coordinating complex interests among merchants, residents, and building owners, securing additional budgets, and implementing modernization projects such as road widening, facility improvements, and signboard maintenance.

Additionally, Kim Eun-kyung of the Housing Division received the Excellence Award for administratively demolishing two unauthorized hazardous buildings that had been abandoned for a long time to ensure residents' safety. Kim Eun-hee of the Urban Planning Division was granted the Encouragement Award for resolving information-sharing issues regarding donation-based land acquisition by establishing the ‘Donation Information Communication Plaza.’

The Outstanding Team Award went to An Il-chan of the Urban Planning Division and Wi So-hyun of the Road Division. Their collaboration led to the nighttime removal of illegally occupied unauthorized stalls on roads that had been neglected for a long time, followed by road paving, which improved road usage convenience for residents and enhanced the urban landscape, earning high praise.

The selected exemplary public officials will receive monetary rewards, certificates, and plaques from the district mayor at the year-end ceremony. They will also be granted the highest grade in performance bonuses, priority selection for overseas training, and preferential allocation of recreational facilities, among other incentives.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, “At the presentation of outstanding cases, where I attended to encourage staff, I was instead encouraged by the efforts of our employees who actively and creatively pursued work for the benefit of residents. Moving forward, we will do our best to establish a culture of proactive administration within the organization by preparing various incentives that can boost the pride and morale of public officials.”

Meanwhile, through continuous efforts to cultivate a culture of proactive administration, the district received the Excellence Award and Encouragement Award in the ‘Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Second Half 2023 Proactive Administration Outstanding Cases’ and the Grand Prize from the Prime Minister at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘Proactive Administration Outstanding Cases Competition.’
