Gyeonggi Province has uncovered a large number of companies violating the Air Environment Conservation Act and the Waste Management Act by operating air emission facilities without reporting or failing to operate wheel-washing facilities that remove dust from vehicles entering and exiting construction sites.

The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 14th that from November 13 to 24, they conducted intensive inspections on 360 suspected sites, including construction sites emitting large amounts of fine dust and unreported air emission facilities around urban areas, confirming 56 violations.

Among the major cases detected, Company A, a cardboard manufacturing business located in Gunpo City, was found operating air emission facilities such as mixing facilities and shredding facilities for cutting scrap cardboard without reporting to the relevant administrative authorities and without any pollution control devices.

Company B, an automobile repair shop in Hanam City, was also found to be operating air emission facilities, including painting and drying facilities, for vehicle painting without reporting to the relevant authorities.

Company C in Anyang City was caught during this inspection for failing to take measures to suppress dust emissions, such as not installing portable dust screens on electric grinders, despite generating large amounts of scattered dust while grinding walls at a construction site.

Company D in Bucheon City was detected working outdoors cutting paving blocks during building construction without installing dust control facilities such as dust screens, and Company E in Uiwang City was found to have conducted earthwork for ground formation by bringing in soil without dust suppression facilities or measures, while handling and transporting soil.

Hong Eun-gi, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police, stated, "Fine dust causes air pollution and leads to respiratory diseases, cancer, and cardiovascular problems, so we are continuously monitoring and investigating these issues." He added, "To protect the health of residents and create a clean air environment, we plan to conduct annual investigations of businesses generating fine dust. Detected businesses will be guided to improve through follow-up management to prevent repeated violations."
