Goseong County in Gyeongnam announced on the 12th that national comedian Jo Hye-ryeon sincerely made a hometown love donation for the development of her hometown, Goseong.
Jo, who is from Georyu-myeon, began her broadcasting career as a comedian in the 9th KBS public recruitment after winning an award at the 2nd KBS University Comedy Festival in 1992.
She has been actively working as a nationally recognized comedian in South Korea, receiving awards such as the SBS Entertainment Awards Popularity Award and the SBS Entertainment Awards Excellence Award in the Show Sports category. Through donations such as relief funds for the Syria-Turkiye earthquake, she is creating a brighter world with laughter and benevolent giving.
Jo said, “I am truly happy to support my hometown Goseong through the hometown love donation. I hope the culture of hometown love donations spreads and brings vitality to the local economy of Goseong.”
County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “We are very proud that national comedian Jo Hye-ryeon, who makes South Korea happy, is from our Goseong County. We will do our best to use the precious donation to make Goseong a better place to live.”
Meanwhile, the Hometown Love Donation System allows individuals to donate up to 5 million won annually to local governments other than their place of residence, receiving a tax credit and a gift worth about 30% in return.
