Ruling Party: "6 out of 10 Citizens in Guri, Gimpo, and Hanam Support Incorporation into Seoul"

The People Power Party announced on the 11th that about 6 out of 10 citizens in Guri, Gimpo, and Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, support incorporation into Seoul.

The People Power Party's 'New City Project Special Committee' commissioned the polling firm Ace Research to conduct a survey from the 4th to the 5th targeting residents aged 18 and over in the regions (Guri 803 people, Gimpo 812 people, Hanam 804 people), and disclosed the results on the same day.

In this survey, the approval rate for incorporation into Seoul was highest in Guri at 67%, followed by Gimpo at 61%, and Hanam at 60%. The opposition rates were 37% in Hanam, 36% in Gimpo, and 29% in Guri, respectively.

Special Committee Chairman Cho Kyung-tae explained, "Expectations that the mega-city project will improve living environments and have a positive impact on quality of life all exceeded 60%." Regarding the division of Gyeonggi Province, he said, "Negative perceptions were clear," and added, "The 'New City Project' we have promoted so far has proven to be an unprecedented policy for residents."

He continued, "Although the Gimpo Integration Act was proposed on the 11th of last month, it is quite regrettable that the Democratic Party is preventing proper discussion even in the National Assembly's standing committee."

The special committee plans to produce promotional videos for the mega-city and accelerate discussions on enacting the 'Special Act on Integration of Cities and Provinces and Support for Jurisdictional Changes,' a support bill for the mega-city.

Meanwhile, this survey was conducted entirely via wireless 100% automated response system (ARS). The sampling error was ±3.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The response rates were 5.4% in Guri, 6.1% in Gimpo, and 5.7% in Hanam, respectively.
