Jeong Haeyong (52), former Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu City, declared on the 11th that he will run for the Daegu Dong-gu Gap constituency in the general election.
On the same day at 10 a.m., Jeong held a press conference at the Daegu City Party Office of the People Power Party in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, stating, "The future of Daegu lies in Dong-gu," and "I am throwing my hat in the ring to create a wonderful Daegu Dong-gu."
Jeong said, "Once the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport is built, the K-2 relocation site, which had suffered from noise pollution, will become a new land of opportunity for Daegu's development. Over the past decade, Dongdaegu Station, its surrounding area, and the Dongdaegu Venture Valley have undergone revolutionary changes and will become a startup hub attracting young people."
He continued, "The Kumho River flowing gently through Daegu and Dongchon Amusement Park will be transformed into new public spaces combining rest, leisure, and tourism. I also promise to more boldly promote the revitalization of traditional markets and alley economies focused on small businesses, including the Peace Market Ddongjip Alley, Songra-ro, Dongdaegu Terminal Food Alley, and nearby popular alleys."
Jeong entered politics in 1995 as a staff member of the People Power Party's Central Party Secretariat. He served as a member of the Daegu City Council for the 5th and 6th terms representing Dong-gu, Daegu, and held positions such as Political Special Advisor to Daegu City, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu City, and Innovation Committee Member of the People Power Party.
