Olympic Service Manager Repair and Consultation Skills Competition at Sites in Korea, US, Dubai, India
New Smart Home Test Using LG ThinQ Introduced
LG Electronics announced on the 11th that it has been sequentially hosting the '2023 LG Electronics Service Olympics' over three months since last October at its global business sites in Korea, the United States, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), India, and others. The event aims to enhance service managers' skills in product repair, consultation, and software utilization.
More than 4,200 participants from domestic and overseas locations took part in the Olympic preliminaries, with around 300 advancing to the finals. This year, Korea officially adopted home appliance cleaning services as a competition category. Overseas, the evaluation scope expanded from core products such as refrigerators and washing machines to include dishwashers. A new LG ThinQ utilization test was introduced to assess service managers' software proficiency.

The Korean competition was held on November 1-2 at the LG Electronics Learning Center in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. Eighty-seven service managers, overcoming about a 5:1 competition ratio, competed. Approximately 490 participants took part in the preliminaries, an increase of about 100 from last year. They demonstrated skills in repairing products such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, TVs, PCs, and small appliances, as well as cleaning, customer service, and phone consultation abilities. The repair and cleaning sections evaluated whether participants could fix or clean randomly assigned faults or contamination symptoms within a limited time for each product. The customer service and phone consultation sections assessed participants' response abilities based on scenarios. Their ability to handle unexpected situations, such as additional repair requests, was also evaluated.
The U.S. competition took place on November 2-3 at the Tennessee factory. The Tennessee factory is recognized as a 'Lighthouse Factory' by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Like a lighthouse guiding the way at night, it signifies a factory that illuminates the future of manufacturing by adopting cutting-edge technology. This year, the eligibility was expanded to allow Canadian managers to participate in the U.S. competition, resulting in the first Canadian participant. Competitions were also held in Dubai, UAE, and India.
LG Electronics held its first domestic service engineer technical Olympics in 2002. Since 2018, it has been operating as a global competition. Jung Yeon-chae, Vice President and Head of Customer Value Innovation Division at LG Electronics, said, "From the perspective of 'total care' that resolves customer inconveniences in one go, we will enhance overall service capabilities including consultation, repair, response, and cleaning to innovate customer experience and provide differentiated services."
