Second Most Subscribers Worldwide 'MrBeast'
Actually Held 'Ojingeo Game'
The creator who gained the most subscribers on YouTube this year was a foreigner, not a domestic creator. The person in question is MrBeast.
According to the YouTube Culture & Trends team at Google Korea on the 11th, based on subscriber changes from January to October this year, the title of 'Most Popular YouTube Creator in Korea This Year' went to the YouTube channel 'MrBeast' by famous American YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson. He currently has 217 million subscribers.
He became known to domestic users through content related to the Netflix drama "Squid Game." He actually held a real-life "Squid Game." Seeing signs of popularity in Korea, he provided Korean dubbing to attract subscribers.
Recently, he conducted a survival project where he was trapped in a large supermarket and gave $10,000 (about 13 million KRW) as a prize for every day he survived, which was reported daily in Korea. The rule was that the challenger would receive $10,000 each day but had to return $10,000 worth of products from the supermarket as a price. The challenger lasted 45 days in the supermarket, winning $450,000 before ending the challenge.
As of 2023, MrBeast is the second most subscribed YouTuber worldwide and the most subscribed team YouTuber. He reached 100 million subscribers in July 2022, receiving the Red Diamond Play Button. Besides the supermarket survival content, he also produces public interest content such as ▲ gifting vacant houses to homeless people ▲ treating 1,000 visually impaired people ▲ planting 20 million trees.
Following MrBeast, the channels 'Jisik Inside', 'Jjalcut', 'DdeunDdeun', 'ootb STUDIO', 'Ibion', 'Jinhanhyung Shindongyeop', 'Ddeep', 'Psick Univ', and 'Pani Bottle' gathered the most subscribers in that order.
Among channels whose subscriber count increased by more than 200% compared to last year, the ‘Rising Creator’ award went to ‘Dahae’, who shares cooking content honestly and without pretense.
Google Korea analyzed that talk shows based on unique concepts and straightforward stories continued to be popular this year as well, following last year.
IVE’s 'I AM' Sweeps Both MV and Shorts
The most popular domestic music video on YouTube this year was IVE’s 'I AM'.
The popularity of this song extended to Shorts (short-form videos). Among Shorts uploaded to YouTube this year, the video with the highest views in Korea was the dance challenge video for IVE’s 'I AM' titled 'Ige Nada' posted on singer Lee Young-ji’s channel.
